Mark Watkinson

Chief Executive Officer

Mark Watkinson was appointed as the Bank’s Chief Executive Officer effective 2 November 2015. He has been with HSBC since 1985 and has held senior management positions in various countries and businesses. Prior to his Bermuda appointment Mark was CEO and Director of HSBC Malta. Other HSBC Group roles have included Head of Commercial Banking in North America, Executive Vice President Commercial Banking in Canada and CEO Philippines.

In his capacity as Chief Executive Officer, Mark has management oversight and responsibility for all lines of business and functions within the Bank and leads the Executive Management Committee in setting strategic direction for the Bank.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Master of Business Administration. He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, a Fellow of the Institute of Directors, London, and holds a Chartered Director designation from the Institute of Directors, London.

Executive Management Committee

Philip Alvey

Chief Financial Officer

Phil Alvey was appointed as the Bank’s Chief Financial Officer on 1 April 2016. Phil joined HSBC in 2000 and has held a number of Finance roles in the Group’s head office, European region, UK and North America.

Most recently, he has overseen the Finance teams across seventeen countries in HSBC’s ‘International Europe’ region. Prior to that, Phil was Chief Accounting Officer for HSBC Bank plc, HSBC’s principal subsidiary in the UK.

Phil is a UK-qualified Chartered Accountant and graduated in Mathematics from Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge University.

Federico Bellanti

Head of Global Markets and HSBC Securities Services

Federico Bellanti was appointed Head of Global Markets and HSBC Securities Services in January 2018. He joined HSBC in 1996 as an FX Trader in Italy before progressing through the bank where he has held various positions, including Head of Corporate Sales Italy and more recently as Head of Global Markets Corporate Services, Italy. He has served as a member of the European Corporate Sales EXCO since 2012 and contributed to both the design and implementation of the sales strategy and sales policies for European corporates. While serving as a member of the EMEA Risk Advisory from 2012 to 2016 he assisted in the design and development of the Risk Advisory Strategy and led the design and development of key analytical tools for corporate clients across EMEA.

Federico’s experience covers primarily derivative products, ranging from Foreign Exchange, Fixed Income and Commodities. He possesses a deep knowledge and understanding of the Corporate space, which has helped him navigate across the numerous challenges and opportunities offered by financial markets in recent years.

Katie Butterworth

Chief Risk Officer

Katie was appointed Chief Risk Officer effective 1 March 2017. She joined HSBC in 2003 and has held several positions within Global Banking and Markets, Commercial Banking and Retail Banking and Wealth Management, in front office and Risk roles. Most recently, Katie was the Global Chief Operating Office for Global Banking and Markets Risk, where she supported and deputised for the Chief Risk Officer, Global Banking and Markets, with a broad remit including the risk governance framework, risk appetite, risk operations and performance improvement of the Global Banking and Markets function.

 

Renee Bullock-Cann

Head of Retail Banking Wealth Management and Marketing

Renee Bullock-Cann joined the Bank in 1999 and has held various roles, including IT Business Manager, Information Systems Division; Chief of Staff for the CEO, Bermuda; and VP Personal Financial Services.

In 2006 Renee commenced a two-year international secondment as SVP, Segment Leader, Marketing at HSBC in New York and returned to Bermuda in 2008 as Senior Manager, Personal Financial Services – Head of Branch Network, followed by Head of Network, Retail Banking Wealth Management and Head of Customer Value Management, Retail Banking Wealth Management prior to her appointment as Head of Retail Banking Wealth Management and Marketing in August 2014.

Prior to joining the Bank Renee worked as Staff Auditor, Internal Audit at North Forth Bank in the U.S. and as a Senior Auditor with Ernst & Young, Bermuda. She holds a B.A. in Business Administration from the Florida Institute of Technology and a Certified Public Accountant (USA) designation.

Jacki Dodds

Head of Regulatory Compliance

Jacki was appointed Head of Regulatory Compliance Bermuda effective 1 May 2017. She has been with HSBC since 1989 and has worked in the financial services sector for nearly 40 years. Prior to this Bermuda appointment Jacki was the Head of Regulatory Compliance, Channel Islands and Isle of Man (which until March 2017 also included Financial Crime Compliance). Jacki was appointed to this role in 2006 having joined the function in 1996 and was the registered Compliance Officer and Money Laundering Compliance Officer with the Jersey Financial Services Commission.

In her capacity as the Head of Regulatory Compliance, Jacki has management oversight and responsibility to lead the regulatory compliance team, ensure they understand the regulatory landscape and work with the business to help them identify and manage their regulatory compliance risks.

Jacki is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, a Professional Member of the International Compliance Association, London, a Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute and the Society of Financial Advisers, London and a member of the Chartered Management Institute, London.

Judith P. Doidge

Corporate Secretary

Judith Doidge is the Bank's Corporate Secretary, with responsibility for the company secretarial and corporate administrative affairs of the Bank. She joined the Bank in 1971 in the Investment division. In 1980, she was appointed the Bank's Trader and Representative on the Bermuda Stock Exchange. 

In January 1990 she moved to the post of Supervisor, Corporate Administration and Assistant Corporate Secretary and seven months later was appointed Corporate Secretary.

Judy was appointed a Vice President in December 1997 and an Executive Officer in August 2001. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and an Associate Member of the Institute of Directors.

Judy attended The Bermuda High School for Girls, Lawnside School in Malvern, England, and the London College of Secretaries.

Lawrence Hopkinson

Head of Financial Crime Compliance

Lawrence was appointed Head of Financial Crime Compliance in Bermuda effective 9 April 2018. He has been with HSBC since 2006 and has more than 20 years of financial services compliance experience. Prior to joining HSBC Bermuda, Lawrence was the Head of Financial Crime Compliance for the Global Banking and Markets line of business at HSBC Canada. Between 2011 and 2017, Lawrence was also the registered Chief Compliance Officer of HSBC Securities (Canada) Inc. Before joining HSBC, Lawrence held institutional and retail compliance roles at two major bank-owned broker-dealers in Canada.

As the Head of Financial Crime Compliance, Lawrence has management oversight and responsibility for all facets of the Financial Crime Compliance programme within the Bank, encompassing Anti-Money Laundering, Sanctions, Anti-Bribery and Corruption.

Cora McLaren

Head of Wholesale Banking

Cora McLaren was appointed Head of Wholesale Banking in Bermuda effective 15 January 2018. Cora has worked at HSBC for more than five years and previously for Lloyds Banking Group and Barclays Bank in the UK. Cora's experience spans strategic and front line customer leadership roles, product partner experience, operational management and in 2017 she also undertook a short-term assignment to lead the CMB team in Hyderabad to support the remediation requirements.

Cora's most recent roles have been Deputy Regional Director in the UK Corporate Banking and previously was the Regional Director in Business Banking for three years.

Yolanda Outerbridge

Head of Human Resources

Yolanda Outerbridge is the Head of Human Resources (HR). Yolanda and her team are responsible for developing and executing human capital strategies for the organisation. The HR function includes responsibility for resourcing, reward and benefits management, employee relations, learning and development as well as talent management.

Yolanda joined the Bank in 2002 as the Global HR Director for Private Banking after completing an 8 year career in HR with Butterfield Bank. Subsequent to the HSBC amalgamation, Yolanda took on the role of Senior HR manager and moved to the corporate HR team where she focused on integrating Bank of Bermuda with HSBC. In her current role as Head of HR she is keenly focused on raising the employment brand of the organisation, human capital planning and effectively managing talent with a core focus on high potential talent.

Yolanda graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Acadia University and holds a post graduate diploma in Human Resources from Seneca College in Toronto. She also holds both a Professional Human Resources designation (PHR) through the Society of Human Resources Management and a certification through the HR Professional Association of Ontario.

Yolanda has over 14 years of Human Resources experience within the financial services arena. She is an Executive Director and Board member of the Bermuda Employer's Council and has worked as Chairperson and Board member of the Bermuda Financial Services Academy. She is an active Youth Net mentor and supports Prospect Primary's P1 class on a weekly basis.

Joanna Saldok

Chief Operating Officer

Joanna Saldok joined HSBC Bermuda in August 2016 and as the Chief Operating Officer she is responsible to operationalise the Group’s strategy and provide management and oversight of the Bank’s most critical operations and technologies. Additionally she is responsible to ensure that the Bank’s vendor management processes and corporate real estate activities are properly supporting the Bank’s business needs and achieving operational effectiveness for the organisation.

Joanna has been with the HSBC Group for over 20 years, working in USA and UK before joining the Bermuda team. Joanna's experience is very diverse where she has held various leadership roles including front and back-office Operations, Strategy and Planning, Human Resources, Learning and Development, Communications and Transformation. Immediately prior to her Bermuda appointment, Joanna was the Head of Transactions for Europe, where she was responsible for managing the execution of strategic transactions on behalf of the European region, for which she engaged across all business and functional lines to implement such strategies.

Jill Virgil-Smith

General Counsel

As the General Counsel for the Bank, Jill is responsible for the management of the Bank's Legal Department and, together with her team, provides legal support to all divisions of the Bank. Jill joined the Bank in September 2004 as Senior Legal Counsel. In 2007 Jill commenced a two-year international assignment as Head of Legal with HSBC Bank (Cayman) Limited and returned to Bermuda in 2009 as Senior Legal Counsel for the Bank. In September 2010 Jill assumed the role of Acting General Counsel and in June 2011 she was promoted to Deputy General Counsel, a position she held until her appointment as General Counsel in August 2013.

Jill is a Bermudian qualified lawyer having been called to the Bermuda Bar in November 1996. Prior to joining the Bank in 2004, Jill spent 8 years as a Corporate Attorney at the Bermuda office of the offshore law firm Appleby. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science from The University of Guelph, in Ontario, Canada, a Bachelor or Law from The University of Essex in England and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law in London, England. Jill is a member of the Bermuda Bar Association.

Anthony Joaquin, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, is retired Managing Partner of the Bermuda office of Ernst & Young is presently Chairman of HSBC Corporate Money Fund Limited, HSBC Managed Portfolios Limited, HSBC Fund of Funds Limited and HSBC Specialist Funds Limited.

He is also Deputy Chairman of BF&M Limited and a Director of Ascendant Group Limited and SAL Limited and former Deputy Chairman of the Bermuda Monetary Authority.

Kiernan Bell

Kiernan Bell is a retired Partner and former Managing Partner of Appleby Bermuda, with over 20 years’ experience in commercial litigation, corporate governance, M&A and shareholder disputes.

Ms. Bell also serves as Chairman of the Bermuda Business Development Agency, Chairman of the Bermuda Immigration Appeal Tribunal and a Director of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce. She is also a former President of the Bermuda Bar Association.

Ms. Bell holds a BA from the University of Toronto and an LLB from the University of Birmingham. She is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a Member of the Middle Temple, London, England (1993) and a Member of the Bermuda Bar Association.

Christopher P. Davies

Non-executive Director

Appointed to the Board: 13th February 2014

Christopher Davies has been employed by HSBC for more than 28 years.

He is currently Chief Executive Officer International, HSBC Bank plc. and is responsible for HSBC's activities across 15 of the Group's markets. Prior to his current appointment Mr. Davies was located in Shanghai, China and was Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, HSBC Bank (China) Company Ltd. where he directly oversaw the transaction banking, private banking and rural banking businesses, all operational and functional activities and was responsible for the development of HSBC's China network. Prior to moving to China, Mr. Davies ran HSBC's Commercial Banking business in North America, following a series of senior appointments across all of HSBC's major business lines, principally in the UK and the Americas.

Mr Davies was educated at the University of Oxford, England (MA Modern Languages). He is an advisory board member of the China Institute (New York) and was a member of the Brookings Institution's forum on global competitiveness.

Bruce A. Fletcher

Bruce Fletcher has been employed by HSBC since 2005.

He is currently Group General Manager and Chief Risk Officer - Global Retail Banking and Wealth Management and is responsible for the management and oversight of all risk aspects of the global Retail Banking and Wealth Management business in more than 40 countries with major business lines including retail lending, branch banking, asset management and insurance. Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Fletcher was Chief Risk Officer - Europe for HSBC Bank, Plc. and Chief Retail Credit Officer for HSBC in North America. Before joining HSBC, Mr. Fletcher was with Citibank, NA in New York for 17 years, where he served as a Managing Director and Senior Credit Officer in the Global Consumer Credit Risk Group with Citigroup/Citibank, NA in New York. He began his career in Commercial Banking with Irving Trust Company in New York.

Mr. Fletcher was educated at the College of William and Mary in Virginia, USA where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration.

Mr. Fletcher has also served as a Board member of HSBC Life (UK) Ltd. and HSBC Bank A.S. (Turkey).

J. Lindsay Gordon

Lindsay Gordon is an experienced business and community leader, formerly President and CEO of HSBC Bank Canada (2003 - 2013), now Chancellor of the University of British Columbia and a Director of Corporates and Non Profits.

Prior to his appointment as President and CEO of HSBC Bank Canada in 2003, Mr. Gordon was Chief Operating Officer for HSBC Bank Canada from 1999 to 2003 and between 1987 and 1999 he held various roles at HSBC Bank Canada in Toronto and Vancouver.

Before joining HSBC in 1987 Mr. Gordon held various roles with Export Development Canada between 1976 and 1987. He is also a Director of HSBC Bank France.

Mr. Gordon holds an MBA in Finance and International Business and a BA in Economics, both from the University of British Columbia.

Fiona E Luck

Independent non-executive Director

Appointed to the Board: 7th June 2017

Ms. Luck is a retired (in 2016) financial services executive with more than 30 years’ industry experience in global financial services, insurance and reinsurance. She was executive vice-president and chief of staff of XL Group from June 2006 to 2009 and later served as special adviser to the chief executive officer until 2010. From 1999 to 2006, she held various top posts at XL, including executive vice-president of group operations and interim chief financial officer. Earlier, she worked at Ace Bermuda, leaving as executive vice-president of joint ventures and strategic alliances. Ms. Luck also worked at Marsh & McLennan’s Bermuda operation in various senior roles including Managing Director and she gained extensive experience as an audit senior at KPMG Thomson McLintock, London.

Fiona is a non-executive director and Chair of the Audit and Risk Management Committee of the Bermuda Monetary Authority and a non-executive director of Ras Al Khamaih International Corporate Centre. She previously was a non-executive director at Hardy Ltd., Catlin Group Ltd. and Allied World Holdings Ltd. She is also a Trustee of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation in the UK and a Director of KnowledgeQuest, a Bermuda charitable organisation.

Ms. Luck qualified with the Institute of Chartered Accounts of Scotland UK in 1982 and holds a BA Hons. in Economics and Finance from Manchester University, UK (1979). Fiona was named Woman of the Year in 2003 by the Association of Professional Insurance Women, USA.

Gil Tucker, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, is a retired Managing Partner of the Bermuda office of Ernst & Young and retired Chairman of the Financial Services Office of Ernst & Young, Bermuda.

Mr. Tucker is presently Co-Chairman of Bermuda First; Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Saltus Grammar School; Treasurer of the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust; and a past member of the Bermuda International Business Forum; the Chamber of Commerce; the Bermuda Hamilton Rotary Club; and the Bermuda Career Centre.

Mr. Tucker is a Member of the Bermuda Institute of Chartered Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the District of Columbia Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

John Wight

Independent Non-Executive Director

Appointed to the Board: 1st October 2016

 

John Wight is President & CEO of BF&M Limited, a publicly traded company on the Bermuda Stock Exchange.  He is also a director of BF&M. John has 35 years of experience in the financial services sector in Canada and Bermuda.  Prior to becoming President & CEO of BF&M Limited in 2005, he held the position of Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer.  John started his professional career with Ernst & Young, Montreal before transferring to Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC), in Bermuda. 

John holds professional designations as a chartered Professional Accountant and a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce, with a major in Accounting from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.  He also received a degree in Accounting at Concordia prior to earning his Chartered Accountant Designation. 

Mr. Wight is the President of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, a Council Member of the Bermuda Stock Exchange and a member of the Ministry of Finance Insurance Advisory Committee. He is also a director for several companies, including Chairman of Bermuda Container Line.
