Student employment is a great way for individuals to gain invaluable work experience in the financial services industry. They have the opportunity to learn about a diverse range of areas within the bank such as how emerging risks and changes in regulatory requirements are being addressed, building relationship management skills, understand and learn about a wide range of products, gain a greater understanding of the roles and types of careers at HSBC, and understand where they might best fit when they graduate.
Every year, HSBC Bank Bermuda Limited employs between 20 and 30 college/university students during the summer and about half that number over the Christmas holidays. Students begin their employment relationship with HSBC through a number of different avenues: the Recruit Extraordinary People Programme (REP) and the Student Internship Programme. HSBC also partners with colleges and universities for longer period co-op placements.
Every year, HSBC partners with each of the local high schools for nominations of a Bermudian student from the graduating class to join HSBC Bermuda on a one-year Traineeship contract. Each nominated student commences work the summer following their first year of post-secondary education. Nominations are based on the following criteria:
We employ, approximately 30 college/university level students each summer to work in various departments of HSBC. During the Christmas break from school, approximately half of those students are re-hired back into the departments as student interns.
Students interested in applying for the Student Internship Programme at HSBC Bermuda should do so by 4 January of each year. To apply, send a cover letter, resume, completed HSBC application, proof of enrolment, and evidence that you have requested your transcript from the college/university via email to recruitment.dept@hsbc.bm. The cover letter should include current education details with date of graduation from your college/university, areas of interest personally and professionally within the financial services industry, dates of availability and your contact details.
Students who have previously worked at HSBC and are interested in applying for Christmas holiday employment should do so by 31 October of each year. Only students with past employment at HSBC will be considered for employment over the Christmas holidays.
During secondary and tertiary education programmes, students are often required to gain work experience through a co-op experience or work placement.
Students interested in arranging a co-op/work placement experience should email Dejuanna Burrows at dejuanna.s.burrows@hsbc.bm. Please include official documentation from the college/university about expectations and timelines for the co-op/work placement.
