Graduate Development Programme

The HSBC Bermuda Graduate Development Programme is a two-year programme which provides accelerated training and practical business experience to graduates who are interested in the financial services industry. The Programme develops core skills within the areas of leadership, project management, business development and networking, and product knowledge. Our programme prepares the graduate trainee for a progressive career in the financial services industry.

Structured rotations within HSBC’s global network provide local and international experience. A customized rotation schedule is created for each graduate trainee which will see the graduate occupy several roles within a specific global business or function.

Our Graduate Development Programme offers international exposure through a series of leadership training. Graduates also receive the support and guidance of a mentor who will assist them in preparing customised development plans. These plans build on the capabilities required for the successful completion of the programme.

Graduate trainees will be provided the opportunity to build technical knowledge through continued learning. This will occur via business specific courses and supported professional qualifications.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in either Business, Finance, Mathematics, Economics or related discipline
  • 3.0 GPA or above, or equivalent
  • Strong desire to work in the financial services industry and an interest in banking
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work effectively in different situations
  • High level of energy, drive and commitment

*Previous work experience with HSBC via one of its student programmes is considered an asset.

How to apply

To be eligible for the HSBC Graduate Development Programme, Bermudian applicants must meet the minimum requirements and have graduated from university within two to three years of application to the programme. To apply, complete the following to the attention of Dejuanna Burrows, Graduate Development Programme and submit to recruitment.dept@hsbc.bm.

  • A cover letter to include the reason you believe you are a suitable candidate for the HSBC Bermuda Graduate Development Programme and how you will contribute to the programme. Letter should outline your interests, experiences, and accomplishments and have specific examples of a multi-year objective that you have had and achieved, and indicate any preference of business area you are interested in working
  • Current resume that includes education, any work experience with HSBC and other organizations and extra-curricular activities
  • Proof of Bermudian status; i.e. certified copy of birth certificate or Bermuda passport
  • Completion of the on-line Application Form (GDP Application Form)
  • Two academic or professional reference letters
  • Two personal character references, including at least one from a faculty member of your university
  • A copy of your most current transcript(s)/degree certificate or other relevant proof of GPA and graduate qualifications
